Who Led You to the Lord?

Taste and see that the LORD is good.
Psalm 34:8
My first foundational growth as a Christian was in a bible study that consisted of some 400 ladies. Each week we would prepare for our lesson, share our answers in a small group and then gather in the sanctuary for a lecture from our teaching leader.
Our leader was faithful to seek, and soak in the Lord every day. Her spirit led words captivated me, giving me a hunger and thirst for the Lord that was unquenchable! She helped us to know, love, worship and honor the Lord. She led us to rely on God’s word and I learned to LOVE His word. She taught me to taste and see that the Lord is Good!
I soon became a group leader. No doubt her faithfulness to pray for, pray with and over her group leaders made the difference in our growth and faith. It was a sacrifice for her to devote so much time but she faithfully mentored many women who went on to produce much fruit for the Lord.
Robbie was her name. She was well known in our local group and in the international study groups around the world.
I could recognize her from across the street and would be delighted to see her! But the most important person who led me to the Lord I would not recognize. He is somewhat like the Unknown Soldier.
I was 17 years old and was crossing a highway with a couple of friends one evening. We made it to the median and as we waited for the traffic to clear to safely cross the street, a young man about my age greeted me and asked if I’d like to receive Jesus as my Lord. Although I knew and loved God, I had never been asked to receive Jesus in my heart.
This young man put his hands on my shoulders and together we prayed while his companions prayed with my friends.
Then just like that, my group crossed the street heading west and the others seemed to fade into the night. But I didn’t just cross the street that night, I crossed into eternal life through Jesus, Who would not fade in my heart but grow stronger and brighter each day.
I do not know who this young man was and I do not remember what he looked like. But I do know WHO KNOWS him and WHO he knows...his Lord and Savior he faithfully served that night! And though I do not know what he looks like, I do know WHO he looks like! He looks like His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I’m grateful to write this post. It made me remember my unknown soldier, convicting me to not just be a woman who lifts up, prays for and shepherd those who already know the Lord, but to remember to be an unknown soldier for the Lord.
When we are well establish in our church and community of Christian friends its easy to get complacent about LEADING others who do not know the Lord to HIM. I don’t want to be complacent anymore. I want to be more aware of our commission.
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21-22
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Matthew 9:37
Lord,
Remind us that there are many, too many who do not know You. Fill our hearts with your compassion for those who are lost and without You. Remind us of our commission to lead others to You. Amen
