Thankful Hearts
Week 1 Focus: Relationships
Today, I am thankful for my relationship with my FAMILY.
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Psalms 24:15
Relationships are one of the most important aspects of life, and I think focusing on them is a great way to begin our Thankful Hearts posts.
I truly believe that the majority of people would put family at the top of their “Thankful For” lists. And ideally the love in our family models the love that God has for each of us, unconditional and unending.
Now this isn’t to say that all family relationships are perfect. We all know that isn’t true. Families can be complicated, and each family is unique and has its own set of dynamics. But hopefully, your family provides emotional support during challenging times, encouragement along life’s twists and turns, and the comfort of being known and accepted for who you are.
Today, I want to challenge you to put together a list of why we are thankful for your family and to share some of the reasons you are grateful for them in the comments. Also, I’d like to encourage you to share your list with your family as you gather together over the holidays.
Here’s the first 5 things that came to my mind of why I am grateful for my family:
--I’m thankful for a family that taught me to love Jesus and prays together.
--I’m thankful for a family that can just pick up right where we left off the last time, we were together. (No awkwardness)
--I’m thankful for a family that has fun together and shares laughter.
--I’m thankful for a family that even though we aren’t all blood relatives, loves and accepts each other like we are.
--I’m thankful for a family that loves to eat and for the ones in the family that are great cooks.
Dear Lord, thank you for creating families. Thank you for the blessing of our family bonds and even our own family dynamics. For those here who may have been hurt, betrayed, or even abandoned by their earthly family may they realize that they are not alone and that they are a part of Your family. May we always show the same love and grace to those in our families that you show to us as Your love is a model for how we should love our families. In Jesus name and for the Father’s glory, Amen.
