"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News." Romans 10:15
As you can tell, we had a full weekend of faith, fellowship, and a lot of fun. On Saturday evening, I had the opportunity to talk with the ladies about taking the good news of our weekend to our "worlds."
In Romans 10:15, Paul is talking about preaching the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And, any time we share pieces of our testimony, we also share the Gospel. So, our feet have to GO! We have to walk our belief in Jesus through the lives that we lead.
Flip-flops are a fantastic choice for footwear on our journey for 3 reasons:
In flip-flops, our feet are FREE, and we were made for freedom. "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free," but we live in a fallen world. Our faith in God, through the life of Jesus, strengthens us for that fight. (Hebrews 11:1)
In flip-flops, our feet are EXPOSED. Have you noticed how tempting it has become to hide and isolate from this fallen world? We weren't made to live that way. We were created for relationship, for fellowship with others. Ladies, I know the risk of entering into relationship. If you open up your heart and life to others, you are risking pain, hurt, and disappointment. You know who else knows this risk? Yes, our Father knows this risk, and He determined it was worth it! (Acts 2:42)
Flip-flops force us to SLOW DOWN. Girls, why are we so determined to rush through life like it's a sprint? I believe God wants us to enjoy relationship with Him. I also believe that enjoyment will be contagious. (Psalm 126:2-3)
We can all agree that life on earth is HARD. It's tough being human. Sometimes, the brokenness seems overwhelming. It would be easy to lace up our combat boots to shield our hearts from the world. Often, we may be tempted to quickly race through life tennis shoes so that sorrow can't catch us. I'm afraid many Jesus followers have tried these approaches, and it's made us hard and harsh. I believe Jesus showed us a different way - a kinder, slower, open way. I believe Jesus carried the Good News in a "flip-flop" way.
I'll leave you with one more thought. Have we become so focused on creating pretty lives that we are missing out on beautiful lives? In one of her Bible studies, Beth Moore used Romans 10:7 to say "Beautiful feet aren't always pretty feet."
You may be on a specific mission and obstacle after obstacle threatens to steal your faith. Don't let it! Your God is faithful.
Maybe you've been burned by fellowship and relationship, and you've been tempted to hide away to do life safe and alone. Step back in! Loving people well is always worth it.
I understand life has been more tragic than joyful for many, and I'm asking you to look for the fun anyway. Remember, we were made for enjoying life in the Garden. What if we dared to live the fun of the Garden right here in the middle of fallen Earth? Find something fun and go do it!
I'm sharing a song today that I believe fits with the practicality of our weekend together. Sharing your faith doesn't have to be one, big moment. Remember who God is, grab a friend or two, do something fun, and watch the difference it makes.
