SERVE, SHARE & SHINE - ACT 3
Saturday, July 10, 2021
A cute story from a pastor. While talking to one of the little ones that came forward during children's hour, I was trying to determine if they were old enough for Vacation Bible School. So I said, "You are four now, when will you be five?" He looked up with complete confidence and seemed amazed I would even ask, responding, "On my birthday!"
Yes, of course! There are so many applications for this pearl of wisdom...how often we want to measure and quantify, when God only wants the obvious.
As we move into ACT 3 of SERVE, SHARE & SHINE this summer, our focus will be on children. In the Bible, God tells us how much He loves children. Their sweet spirits are filled with innocence, joy and laughter and Jesus certainly is our role model when it comes to loving on children! He always prioritized children and taught them they were a very special part of God's kingdom. In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Jesus loved all children everywhere and in many different ways. As Soul Sisters, we have a great privilege to be Jesus' hands and feet while on this earth. Please pray with me about the children that need to hear and see and experience His love. Let's carry on a legacy of HIS love to the next generation!
Here are some ideas to get you started....I can't wait to hear and see what you do. Would you please post a photo or video of what you did? You can do this over the weekends, all posts are welcome!
*Acts of kindness towards children! Make an effort to encounter kids in your day (if yours are grown or you don't have children) and then simply make eye contact, smile, speak life into them with a compliment or encouraging word.
*Volunteer at a Vacation Bible School this summer.
*Gather children's supplies and toys and give to a preschool, school or non-profit in your area that minsters to children.
*Pray about one child you know and buy an age appropriate Bible to give them. Write a note inside to encourage them to learn more about God and that He loves them very much.
*Connect with an orphanage (or teen center) in your area and ask them what they need. Try to fulfill their request of blessing bags, volunteering your time and talent or providing a monetary gift. James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
*Organize a craft project or a simple meal at your home for kids who may not know Jesus. Do this with a friend, spouse or neighbor and call it "Just Because You are Special".
*Consider donating to March of Dimes and help the fight for healthy moms and babies.
"And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." Matthew 18:5-6
