Jesus: Teaching King

Focus: Jesus teaches the people how to pray and how to live.

Today’s verses:

Matthew 6:9 (Jesus taught), “Pray, then, in this way…”

Matthew 6:24 (Jesus taught), “No one can serve two masters…”

Matthew 6:25 (Jesus taught), “Do not be anxious for your life…”

Matthew 11:28 (Jesus taught), “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden…”

John 8:12 (Jesus taught), “I am the light of the world…”

John 10:14 (Jesus taught), “I am the good shepherd…”

John 15:5 (Jesus taught), “I am the vine…”

Matthew 13:54-55 And coming to His home town He began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they became astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom, and these miraculous powers? Is this not the carpenter’s son?

Oh, how I would have loved to hear Jesus speak the words and teachings of The Lord’s Prayer out loud. I can imagine how passionate he was about the way we should engage with our Heavenly Father. I know His reminders of reverence were powerful as well as His lessons on prayer requests for needs, forgiveness, direction and protection. The vision of him skillfully teaching with illustrations and speaking the true and authoritative words directly to me move my heart and inspire me as a child of God.

Think of yourself sitting amongst the crowd listening to Jesus teach. What living words (from any of His teachings or parables) would you have wanted to hear Him speak directly to you?

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to you in deep reverence and in thanksgiving for sending your son as the Teaching King. Although he never entered a classroom as we know it today, he had the world as his classroom. He was the Master Teacher! We are grateful for the lessons in the Bible and all the ways we learn of his lessons. Use us, God, to help spread your living word all according to your will.

In your son’s name we pray. Amen
