“Looking for Lovely”

Monday, July 10th

How is everyone doing? We are halfway through our summer study, and I’m checking in? I would love to hear how God is shifting your perspective. Has looking for lovely shifted some things in your normal, everyday life? Please tell us how.

Now, read the next chapter in our book. It’s called “Nail Polish,” and I have to give it to Annie. She took the ideas, challenges, and freak out moments of mid-life and made them feel light and airy with nail polish as the focus.

On page 108 in the book, Annie said,

“I used to not like these verses. (1 Peter 3:3-4) It didn’t resonate with me because I thought about all the time I spent in church and all the time I spent trying to be the “right person,” but I never felt like I had a gentle spirit, and I continued to hate my body. But what I have learned of late is that when I focused on the inside, the outside changed, too. The focus isn’t on clocking time with God just for the sake of checking off your daily responsibilities….When I am doing the hard work of healing for my soul, when I am letting God dig down into the hurt places and expose them and heal them, my body responds with health as well.”

This is good stuff. Tomorrow, let’s talk more about this. Inner soul work has been the hard work of this year for me. We will go there together in tomorrow’s post. For today, paint your nails, sister. And, let the color, shine, or sparkle remind you that you are God’s beautiful design. He loves you just as you are.

God, we give you our lives. They may be broken, uncertain, and even a little insecure. But, we know we belong to You. We know You are safe. So, we trust You with the care of our souls. Give us the strength to go to the depths with You. Hold us tightly until we come out the other side purified and faith-filled. Amen.
