Fun Friday
As we wrap up our week focusing on the disciples’ (and our) disappointments, let’s reflect on God’s Word that shows us that He gives His children the gift of joy ALL THE DAYS of our lives.
· That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:13
· So, I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. Ecclesiastes 8:15
· A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22
· A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. Proverbs 15:13
Thankfully, we can and should make time to smile and enjoy as we keep praying and trusting God to walk with us and take care of us is the midst of disappoint and difficult times. Fun was never meant to replace pain, but it can walk along side of it. You never know what will happen when you mix those two, unless you try.
So today, on this Fun Friday, I ask you to do (or plan) something that is fun to you. What will make you smile? It can be something simple like going on a walk, planting flowers, joining a friend for coffee, reading a good book, coloring, doing a random act of kindness; or it can be something bigger like planning a weekend getaway, going out to a nice dinner, shopping with friends, etc. Let’s see what fun looks like!!!
No matter what you are going through in life, remember the joy of the Lord is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). Make time for fun. Try to have a smile on your face no matter how much disappointment comes your way, how stressful the situation or how discouraging the dilemma. Have fun and smile even when you think you can’t. And when things get tough, or when you feel like giving up, keep your eyes on the real prize. Jesus is walking right there with you on your journey.

Jesus, thank you for journeying with us. Sometimes we don't recognize You, but we believe You are here. There are times when we are sad, disappointed, and even a little lost in this world, because the expectations of our humanity get in the way. When You make yourself very evident, though, our hearts burn within us. Will you help us to recognize that and trust it. Your presence can make us brave. Today, we commit ourselves to You. We want to be transformed by Your presence in our lives and Your power in our bodies. We belong to You, and that Truth makes us glad. Amen.
