Journey with Jesus during Lent

Matthew 27:11-14

Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.

Today may include the one story that causes me to want to sit in front of Jesus and ask multiple questions. He was the Son of God. He lived a perfect life and was preparing to die for all sin. Yet, when accused of being a liar, He said nothing.

Nothing!

Not a single word!

I can't comprehend it. Honestly, it seems impossible. Jesus was innocent. He didn't deserve the accusations, but He never defended Himself. He didn't need their approval, so they didn't get His rebuttal.

Jesus offered us a beautiful model for dealing with accusers. Yet, it doesn't seem like any of us are following His example. He was quiet while they hurled insult. He didn't need anyone else to agree with His identity or His purpose.

That sounds like freedom to me. I'm praying for the discipline to seek the approval of God alone. If I don't need the approval of man it will be much easier to refuse to defend myself in disagreement.

How about you? What will you choose to do with today's picture of Jesus' journey?

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 4 Act of Kindness

“I needed clothes and you clothed me” Matthew 25:36a

This week, donate clothing to a thrift store or homeless shelter.
