Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” Psalm 126:2
As we continue to reflect on the Faith, Fellowship, Fun and Flip Flops Soul Sisters Gathering last week, we are going to focus on the FUN today.
On Saturday afternoon, we all gathered together and reflected on what FUN really looks like and what it felt like during our childhood years. We thought about the last time we really had fun or even a good hard smile and laugh. Smiling and laughter are so important! It’s also the outward evidence of inward joy.
God has given us the ability to enjoy life and even laugh for a reason. It may seem like a little thing, but laughter is vitally important in our lives…. and can make you feel better. The joy of the Lord can ease emotional and physical pain and bring you a new level of satisfaction in life. It helps with stress, anxiety, fear and worry. Having fun or enjoying life, is a gift from God that benefits you in so many ways. He truly cares about each one of his children!
Have you ever thought about how much fun Jesus had??
· He loved children. He talked, played, shared with them.
· He went to parties. He had wine. HE EVEN TURNED WATER INTO WINE
· He helped others by feeding crowds, healing the hurt, etc.
· He visited with friends and family. He told stories. He laughed, smiled and helped others do the same.
These are just some of the ways Jesus enjoyed life while also sharing the kingdom!!
God’s Word shows us that He gives us the GIFT of joy and laughter.
Of course, keep in mind that we must know and do right things, nothing illegal, sinful, etc. We are called to be holy through God’s grace- “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.” 1 Peter 1:15
Do right, be good and ENJOY LIFE….
· John 10:10
o The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the fullest.
o Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them”
· Proverbs 17:22
o A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
· Proverbs 15:13
o A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
· Ecclesiastes 3:13
o That each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.
o So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
We talked about how some of us used to have fun but then we stopped. Some of us are just trying to make it through each day and can’t seem to “make time” to enjoy life. Others may be going through relationship issues, job situations, loss of a loved one, aging parents or even our own sickness. Whatever is going on in your life, know that God still cares. Thankfully, we can and should make time to smile and enjoy this gift God gave us as we keep praying and trusting God to walk with us and take care of us in the difficult situations.
Fun might be right where you are and it’s yours for the taking; OR, you may need to find it, chase it or create it!
We all shared what sounds fun to us. And here are just some of the responses:
Paddleboarding, family bike rides, Christmas morning, boat rides, doing surprises (random acts of kindness), seeing God’s world, wine and quality time with close girlfriends, roller coasters, playing washers and listening to music with my husband, belly laughing with friends, hiking in a creek, and several people said DANCING!!
Can you remember the last time you experienced true FUN or even had a good hard laugh?
Let’s not only work on having fun and smiling but let’s spread it.
Today, please take time to listen to Smile by Sidewalk Prophets. I pray you SMILE!!
No matter what you are going through in life, remember the joy of the Lord is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). Make time for fun, that you will laugh, have a smile on your face no matter how intimidating the incident, how stressful the situation or how discouraging the dilemma. Have fun and smile even when you think you can’t. And when things get tough, or when you feel like giving up, I pray that your smile would bust!
Dear Heavenly Father,
You are such a loving and gracious God. As Christians, you want us to enjoy the life you gave us, to enjoy people, the fruit of our labor, peace, your favor, feasting and celebrating with others. What a true gift!! Thank you! I ask that no matter what we are going through in life, may we remember that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Let us make time for fun and laughter AND smile even when we think we can’t. And lastly, I ask that you send us out into your world spreading your love and joy with others so they too will taste and see how good and gracious you are!! AMEN
