ACTS of the Apostles
Learning How to be Daring and Dynamic
Read Acts 13:13-43
Focus Verses: Acts 13:14-15
But they (Paul and Barnabas) went from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.”
Paul gives a history lesson concerning the nation Israel, all leading up to Jesus the Savior (v. 23). It’s worth reading these verses to once again keep the big picture of the whole Bible in mind. What a great “teaching moment model” Paul provides as he began right where his listeners were - with the knowledge and belief in the covenant God had with Israel. This was a a point of agreement because all Jews were proud to be God’s chosen people. He goes on to explain how the gospel fulfilled that covenant. He recounts the story of how the Jewish leaders condemned the Messiah, but God raised him from the dead. The good news spoken to the crowd is this: “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you” (v. 38). And what good news that is for all of us! Paul set the stage well, and moved into the good news of who Jesus is and why he came. This caused the people to hunger for more …
Like Paul and Barnabas, if we have “any word of encouragement for the people” concerning Christ, let’s say it. It’s a pretty unbelievable story to hear so setting the stage at a point of agreement sounds like a great idea to me. Our job, like these men is to spread the Gospel which gives encouragement to others that need to hear it. These two apostles provide great examples of how to live in a daring and dynamic way .
Heavenly Father,
How great it is that you provide story after story of who you are and why you came. Hallelujah! You offer forgiveness and eternal life for everyone that believes. You make it so simple ,so why do we struggle sharing this amazing news? Help us to go forth from this study with the confidence of being daring and dynamic in what we share and how we live our lives.
In your precious name we pray, Amen.
