ACTS: A Way to Pray
Isaiah 40:21-26
Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; who brings princes to nothing, and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness. Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows on them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power; not one is missing.
Adoration:
Heavenly Father,
You are the Supreme Ruler of all rulers in the heavens and earth. You know the name of each and every star that takes place at your command. Everywhere I look I see your handiwork. Father, You are THE majestic and all powerful creator, sustainer, and helper of all .You cannot be moved like the others who will be “carried off like stubble”. I bow my head in worship today knowing how great and mighty you are.
Confession:
Lord, I admit that I can forget just how big and how much in control you are. I am indeed just like a grasshopper on this earth who hops aimlessly when I am on my own, forgetting to let go of my own agenda to submit to yours. When I gaze in the heavens at your BIG creation I confess I overlook how it all got there. I confess that I spend too much time on what I deem important and forget to acknowledge the will you have for my life.
Thanksgiving:
Thank God for your ability to miss nothing…not one star in the heavens, not one ruler on the earth, not one hair on our heads. Oh Father, how grateful I am that YOU are that mighty and powerful. You save me from my ways on a regular basis and no one else can boast that. You know and love me more than I do myself. You sit above the “circle of this earth” and you care about every one and everything that is. The power you have brings me peace when I start to feel anxious.
Supplication:
I ask you to fill me and my family with a renewed awe of your “un-comparable” holiness and power. Give each one of us a desire to know and follow you. I ask that when I get caught up in myself, you will remind me to switch that focus to you. Lord, I ask that you continually open my eyes and tilt my head towards the heavens so I don't forget for a minute the strength and power you have over this world. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
