A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Day 24

Matthew 27:39-40

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”

Once again, lots of insults and mocking hurled at Jesus. They seem to be like arrows of flame aiming right at his heart as he hung on the cross. Wouldn’t you think people would stop by now? Now that he was literally on the cross? But no, as Jesus is slowly dying, more cruel words! His critics continued their attempt to question him and make him prove himself of his character and ministry. They finally challenged him enough to say come down from the cross, if you really are God’s son.

Here is something to think about…what if Jesus took the challenge and DID decide to prove himself and come down from the cross? What would’ve happened? As believers today, we rejoice in knowing that since Christ STAYED on the cross, everything changed! We have been redeemed, saved from our sin, and have the gift of eternal life. It was ALL orchestrated by our one and only Holy God. Oh, how He loves us! It is hard to understand. What stood out to you today?

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 5 Act of Kindness

“I was sick and you looked after me” Matthew 25:36b

This week, help someone who is sick or in the hospital.
