A Journey with Jesus during Lent
Day 3
Matthew 26:17-19
On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
Think about the last time you prepared for a special event or feast. You know how much work goes into getting ready for any big meal where friends or family all gather together. The prep work is very important!! As Jesus’ disciples began preparing for the Passover dinner, they did three simple things. First, they went directly to Jesus. Second, they talked to Jesus and asked him questions. Third, they obeyed him. Remember that Jesus already knew how the night would unfold, he needed his disciples to follow his plan. Which is exactly what they did.

During this season of Lent, we are also preparing for a big day, it’s Easter, when we remember Jesus as our Savior and Redeemer. Think about the prepping and planning. Are the preparations on your terms or his? Are you going directly to Jesus in true humility and putting your agendas to the side, surrendering your plans for His? Are you being still and listening to His voice so that you know what He wants you to do? Then, are you being obedient and putting action to His calling?
The disciples did just as Jesus directed them and THEN prepared the Passover. What about you, how are you preparing for Jesus? Is it His plan or yours? Don’t miss out on all that he has in store for you. He is faithful and trustworthy. Just ask, listen and obey!
Dear Jesus,
We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.
