Forty Days of Proclamation: Trust
Macie Hatmaker Moseley
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
When I chose the word “trust” to be “my word” for 2020, I certainly had no clue everything that 2020 would hold for me. Lots of tears and a whole new list of fears.
COVID-19 swept into my normal and turned it upside down. Working from home. Cancelled plans. Cancelled trips. Masks. AND So. Much. Hand Sanitizer. Anxiety about who I may accidentally infect. Visions of my loved ones dying in a hospital bed… oh yeah, trust was taken to a whole new level.
And not only that, but “trust” became another challenge as I tried to make sense of racial tensions that were boiling over and the most hateful, anxiety-provoking election in my lifetime.
On top of these wide stressors, I also experienced personal loss that I never have before. In May, we lost my grandfather-in-law, Pop Mose. And only a few months later, in August, we lost my own grandfather, Big Dad.
So -- yes -- I had to trust. Big time!
I’ve found that trust in this season is blind. I truly have no control over how things play out in these situations. I can’t make COVID-19 go away. I can’t control who it does and does not affect. I can’t predict when life will feel “normal” again.
God is teaching me that the only thing to do when I have no control is to trust His sovereignty. To trust His purposes. To trust His heart. To trust His plan.
Even when I don’t know the outcome, He is trustworthy.
Even when I can’t change what’s happening, He is trustworthy.
Even when I don’t understand, He is trustworthy.
Few my tears, my fears, and my heartache… He. Is. Trustworthy.
“Don’t let this throw you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking.” -John 14:1-4 (MSG)

Prayer:
Lord, may we grow to trust You more each minute, hour and day. May You remind us that in every season, You are trustworthy. You use every circumstance for Your purposes and for our ultimate good. Even when we can’t see or make sense of what you’re doing, we will choose to trust You. We love you, Lord. Amen.
