Forty Days of Proclamation: Seek

Patricia Sortino Pool

"For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will delight you. Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you.” Proverbs 2:10-11

I have an old windowpane that I write, display my word of the year. The current location of the windowpane is hanging in the screened lanai area (some may call it a porch or veranda). At this time in my life, things, objects must have two purposes a function along with decorative. This is a requirement with downsizing. I view the word “Seek” almost daily, along with the other words that share the space on the clear glass. The other words are, SEEK in Hebrew-Baqash, SEEK in Greek-Zeteo, *Go deeper *Become closer *Surrender *Trust.

Once upon a time before Covid-19 the view on the windowpane was clear and the text legible. My heart was able to see and read about God vividly. The glass being transparent made it easy to watch the shorebirds on the water view during sunrise, morning mercies. Then, suddenly the window was shattered. An unseen virus, named Covid damaged the window. The view of our country, the world was in much distress, extreme anxiety, sorrow and pain. Our lifestyle of comfort, freedom, peace and community had drastically changed. A simple task of weekly grocery shopping became a major health concern for the elderly. I found it so mind boggling that our country choose to turn, grasp hold onto toilet paper instead of Jesus during these uncertain times. I have several elderly neighbors who were in need of assistance in the early stages of the pandemic. I volunteered to do their weekly grocery shopping. They would ask me if I was fearful being out in the stores. My response would be, I know the end of the story, eternity. God knows my arrival date, and He also knows the cause of my death. He won’t be surprise to see me if Covid takes my life. God knows all, omniscient. I did take precautions, I followed the state and county guidelines for outer self care. As for inner care, heart, spiritual and mind. I immersed myself in scripture, found a lot of wisdom in proverbs. How to live life, God’s way through the world we now live. My choice is not to live in fear. I knew in my heart even though I couldn’t see God through this shatter window, I needed to “TRUST.”

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life” Psalms 138:7 a verse i prayed over myself as I journeyed out to love others and my neighbors.

I wonder how far does God have to go in getting our attention? Life in this challenge broken world is hard. We are constantly dealing with the frustration, bitterness of this world not operating the way God intended. I once read somewhere… we curse the fact that this broken-down world has been assigned to be the address where we all live.

Sisters, SEEK God, our walk with Jesus is essential, daily manna. His heart is not seen in an occasional chat or weekly visit. We learn His will as we take “Residence in His House” every single day… Walk with Him get to know how he is.

"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:11

Father God,

Thank You for your word, it allows us to get glimpses of you. enlarging our vision. Of course your size doesn’t change, but our perception of you does. As we draw nearer you seem larger. A big view of God is what we are needing. We have big questions, big concerns. “Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together Psalms 34:3.Amen
