Forty Days of Promises: Week 3
Focus of the week: God takes care of His children
God promises to fight for His children.
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17
All promises are fulfilled in Christ.
Please read Mark 5:21-40.
Today we see Jesus in action fighting for his children. He fought for the woman with the hemorrhage for 12 years (an outcast) and the 12 year-old-girl (who had died). He calls out to them as “Daughter” and “little girl” as he heals. He calls each of us these same names as well and fights for us against the enemy today.
As children of God we should allow the Lord to take control of our personal battles. The problem however, is that many of us are not patient enough to allow the Lord to fight on our behalf. We feel that we are truly in control or that the Lord isn’t reacting fast enough, so we choose to fight the battle and challenges we face on our own. We forget that we have direct access to a warrior who has never lost at anything. Let’s begin to trust God’s promise that He will fight for us and save us. Remember, He’s already won the greatest battle of all!! He has defeated our enemies of sin and death. We have been given a new life, eternal life.
In the Old Testament, Israel often faced powerful enemies that aimed to destroy. God reminded Israel over and over again that he was with them and would fight for them. They weren’t alone. When Moses was leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, they got to the Red Sea and found the Egyptian army closing in behind them. Trapped between the sea and Pharaoh’s army, their situation looked hopeless. They were a group of slaves versus the greatest military force in the region. When the people cried out to Moses, “What have you done to us?” Moses answered “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13–14) And of course, God intervened, split the sea, and brought them safely to the other side.
We should go to battle against the enemy with confidence in our Mighty Warrior to fight for us. There’s no reason for us to be afraid. In case you forget, “Don’t be afraid” is one of the most often repeated commands in the Bible (365 times—enough for every day of the year). God is with you always, even when everything seems to go wrong, even in your biggest challenge and in toughest of times. God is with you and ready to save you— don’t be afraid. After all, this is his battle!!
So, if you are in the midst of challenges and battles, I ask you today to give it to God. Don’t be afraid, for God fights for you. God is for you, not against you! And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.

Dear Lord,
You are our Mighty Warrior who fights for His children. Forgive us for the times we think that we can win our battles (of any size) without you. It is you who goes ahead of us to trouble our enemies and cause our persecutors to stumble and not prevail. We shall be at peace knowing that you call out to us, your daughters, with compassion as you fight, save and heal. Let us give thanks as we claim your promise… You are indeed mighty to save!!
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
