Week 3 FOCUS OF THE WEEK; GOD TAKES CARE OF HIS CHILDREN
Yet the number of the sons of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered; and in the place where it is said to them, “You are the sons of the living God.” Hosea 1:10
ALL PROMISES ARE FULLFILLED IN CHRIST.
Please read John 14:18-21
Does it ever overwhelm you how much God loves you? I feel that way but probably not often enough. It’s so easy for me to get side-tracked in my own stuff and how I want my world and my “people” to be that I forget there is One who cares for my concerns like no other. In this passage Jesus is speaking to the disciples, encouraging them of the deep love that both God the Father and God the Son has for each one of them. When Jesus said I’ll come to you He meant it. This love was about to be revealed in the sacrifice that will be made in order for them (and us) to become children of God. Although Jesus ascended into heaven, He sent His Holy Spirit to live in His children. To have the Holy Spirit is to have Jesus .
Sometimes we wish we knew the future so we could prepare for it.It’s almost laughable theses days to think we have the any ability to predict our future. Just when we think we have things figured out, a pandemic can happen! God has chosen not to reveal the future to us. He alone knows what will happen. If we listen carefully to that Spirit that lives in us, He tells us what we need to know to prepare for that future ; not necessarily what we want to know. We must rely on the One who knows all! He tells us He will not leave us as orphans. He will not leave us, He will come to us, He will be in us, and He will show himself to us. He knows what will happen and because He will be with us, we have no need to fear. Our job is to obey. That is how we show our love for Him. We do not need to know the future but we are called to have faith in the One that does.
This all sounds so simple, right?? He loves us, so just follow the directions and keep you eye on Him and don't worry about a thing. Wow- if only I could do this all the time. I think God knows just how much we struggle with keeping our focus on Him and knowing we need not fear the unknown. That is what keeps us coming back to Him and His word. Let’s look at it through another lens. Since we just celebrated Mother’s Day, think about what a mother is and what she does. Even if you have never been a mother, you can imagine that little children (or big ones) loose their focus and don't do what the mother asks. This can happen multiple times a day or even in a one hour period (que the memories). Children can be so stubborn and self willed and can easily get totally off track. That’s a picture of us and our lives with Jesus. The gift here is, just like a mother keeps loving and guiding her little (or big) chicks, Jesus does with us; only a million times more. His love for His children exceeds anything we can imagine .
If you are struggling with your stuff today and feel you have nothing to look forward to, know this: you are one of God’s kids and loved more that your mind can compute. You are loved more than you love your own children. You are His: He died for You and sent His Holy Spirit to guide you through the scary and uncertain moments of this life. And if that’s not enough, He has given you, free of charge, everlasting life with Him that I’m certain will be better that we can possibly conger up in any of our minds. What a gift we have to be one of His children!

Abba Father, What a miracle it is that You love us even when by human standards we are totally unloveable. Thank You for never giving up on us when we give up on You. Thank You for showing us what love for a child looks like. Lord, there are many of us that have never experienced parental love in a healthy way. There are many of us who feel unworthy because we have been told so by others. To each one of these sisters, please speak in a way today that leaves no doubt they are loved no matter what and will never be orphaned by You. Thank You for giving us a place in Your family for eternity. Amen
