Forty Days Of Praise - Anchor

The hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us. Hebrews 6:19-20

When you think of the word "anchor" what comes to your mind? Because I grew up in a “fishing” family, I picture an anchor being used to secure a boat in a good spot to catch fish. I also think about the many times we use an anchor on the lake so our boat doesn’t float away when we want to get in the water and chill. We use the anchor because of its strength to keep us where we need to be and not go off on another direction. You too may think of an anchor as a heavy object that is tied to a boat or ship to keep it secure to the bottom of the lake or sea. It’s there for security in the midst of our regular boating activities and for any storms that may come our way.

In Scripture, the term anchor is used metaphorically to represent God and faith - which keeps us steadfast and gives us hope during the trials and storms of life. Hebrews 6 tells us that it is our hope that is the "anchor for our soul".

Our God, the Mighty Anchor, secured us for eternal salvation through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross. In this life on earth, we are called to grow in faith and hold on to hope so we don’t drift away or become shipwrecked in the midst of our storms. As we are in the midst of some storms right now with impacts of the coronavirus, natural disasters, economic struggles, etc. we must hold on tightly to the Anchor of Our Soul. It also came to my mind that we should not only hold on to the Anchor for ourselves, but why not toss an anchor of hope to others. This is a time for us to offer encouragement and hope for people in need. Spread God's Word and love!

Today, reflect on these questions- Are you anchored on Christ and is your hope in Him; or have you fastened your anchor to the “things” of this life? Will you anchor your hope on Christ, or will you allow the uncertainties, pain and problems of life to overwhelm you? How can you share you Anchor of Christ with others?

God, You are my Anchor…. When storms of life are knocking on my door and I feel like I am crashing through a sea of trouble, let me remember that you are the sure and steadfast, true anchor. You died for our eternal salvation and you are the anchor that will save us from these storms of life. I praise you in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic that we are facing right now and have complete faith in you! Let me LOOK near and far so I won’t miss an opportunity to toss my Anchor to others. I want to share your word and hope with others CLEARLY so they see how mighty you are.
